1. Introduction

At 42BIT, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our services.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

  • Personal identification information (name, email address, phone number, etc.)
  • Technical data (IP address, browser type, operating system, etc.)
  • Usage data collected by our self-hosted, cookie-less web analytics (see Section 4)
  • Locally stored preferences (e.g. language, dark mode, cookie choice) that remain in your browser

3. How We Use Your Information

We may use your information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our services
  • Improve, personalize, and expand our services
  • Understand and analyze how you use our services
  • Develop new products, services, features, and functionality
  • Communicate with you for customer service, updates, and marketing

4. Web Analytics (Umami)

We use Umami, an open-source web-analytics tool, to understand how our website is used. Umami is self-hosted on our own infrastructure — no analytics data is transmitted to or shared with any third party. We do not use Google Analytics, Google Ads, or any other third-party tracking service.

What Umami collects:

• Pages visited, the referring page, and the time of the visit

• Browser, operating system, device type, and screen size

• Country, derived from the IP address — the IP address itself is not stored

Umami is cookie-less: it sets no cookies, stores no identifiers on your device, builds no personal profiles, and does not track you across other websites. The resulting statistics are aggregated and cannot be used by us to identify you. If you have enabled analytics in our cookie settings, we additionally record anonymous page-performance metrics (Core Web Vitals) as Umami events.

Legal basis for processing: our legitimate interest in privacy-friendly, aggregated usage statistics for our own website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object at any time by switching off analytics in the cookie settings (available via the cookie banner and the link in the website footer) — measurement then stops immediately.

5. Invitation-Only Presentation (/grid)

The presentation at /grid is not public. It is opened only for people we have invited, and it is the one part of this website that requires you to identify yourself.

What we process when you use it:

• The email address you enter, checked against our invitation list

• The presentation modules assigned to your email address

• The fact, time and version of the terms of use you accept before entering

• Your IP address and browser user agent at the moment you log in

• Which slide of the presentation you looked at, and for how long

• How often the video was played and whether you opened the demo or the About 42BIT link

Why: to keep the presentation limited to invited recipients (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR — performing pre-contractual steps at your request and our legitimate interest in controlling access to confidential business information), to be able to evidence your acceptance of the terms of use (Art. 6(1)(c) and (f) GDPR), and to see which parts of the presentation were of interest so we can follow up on them (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object to the reach analysis at any time using the contact details below; access logging is necessary for the protected access itself and cannot be switched off separately.

Unlike our website analytics, this data is NOT anonymous: it is stored against your email address. It stays on our own servers in Austria, is never passed to third parties, and is deleted at the latest twelve months after your last visit to the presentation.

To open the presentation we set one strictly necessary cookie ("grid_session"). It contains only your email address and an expiry timestamp, cryptographically signed so it cannot be altered, is readable by our server only (HttpOnly), and expires after twelve hours. Without it the protected page cannot tell that you are logged in, so it requires no consent; it is not used for advertising or tracking.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
